Qeswachaka Bridge Tour | Last Inca Rope Bridge & Four Lagoons from Cusco 2 Days

Description

The Qeswachaka Bridge Tour 2 Days from Cusco offers an unforgettable journey combining ancient history, Andean culture, and breathtaking landscapes. Travel from the historic streets of Cusco to the Last Inca Rope Bridge, a living example of traditional Inca engineering preserved by local communities for centuries. This unique adventure allows you to connect with Peru’s rich heritage, authentic traditions, and spectacular natural beauty.

Overview

The Qeswachaka Bridge Tour takes you to one of Peru’s most extraordinary cultural treasures. Located over the Apurímac River at 3,600 meters (11,811 feet) above sea level, in the province of Canas, approximately 160 km south of Cusco, Qeswachaka Bridge Peru is the Last Inca Rope Bridge that continues to be rebuilt each year using the same techniques developed during the Inca Empire.

The name Q’eswachaka comes from the Quechua language, where “Q’eswa” means to braid and “Chaka” means bridge. This remarkable Inca Rope Bridge is handcrafted from woven q’oya grass, following ancient traditions that have been preserved for more than five centuries. Measuring 33 meters (108 feet) long and 1.2 meters (4 feet) wide, the bridge hangs approximately 15 meters (49 feet) above the Apurímac River, offering visitors a unique cultural and historical experience.

The construction techniques and materials have been passed down from generation to generation since the first bridge was built in the 15th century. Every year, nearly 1,000 residents from the Andean communities of Winchiri, Ccollana, Quehue, Chaupibanda, and Choccayhua come together to replace the bridge in a remarkable communal ceremony. This centuries-old tradition has become one of Peru’s most authentic cultural experiences and reflects the enduring spirit of the Andean people.

During this Qeswachaka Tour from Cusco, you will also discover the breathtaking Four Andean Lakes—Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha, and Pampamarca—while passing through picturesque villages such as Piñipampa, where you can visit a traditional alpaca textile workshop and a local trout farm. This journey perfectly combines spectacular mountain scenery, living Inca heritage, and authentic encounters with local communities, making it one of the most rewarding Cusco Cultural Tours available.

We operate the Qeswachaka Bridge Tour throughout the year, offering unforgettable cultural adventures for travelers seeking authentic experiences in Peru. In addition, every June 11–12, visitors have the unique opportunity to witness the annual reconstruction ceremony, when local communities rebuild the Last Inca Rope Bridge entirely by hand using ancestral Inca engineering techniques. This exceptional event is one of the highlights of our Authentic Peru Tours and provides an unforgettable glimpse into one of the country’s oldest living traditions.
