Ausangate Mountain Trek Glaciers, Lagoons & Andean Culture 4 Days

DAY 1: Ausangate Trek CUSCO-OCONGATE-Tinki

The Ausangate Mountain Trek begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco at 06:00 am. We travel by private transportation through beautiful Andean valleys, traditional villages, and breathtaking mountain landscapes. Along the route, we pass through Urcos, where travelers can admire impressive views of the Vilcanota Mountain Range.

Continuing the journey, we arrive at Ocongate, a traditional Andean town known for its cultural importance and its connection to the famous Qoyllur Rit’i pilgrimage festival. After a short stop, we continue to the small village of Tinki, located at 3,850 meters above sea level, where the trekking adventure officially begins.

Upon arrival, the trekking team prepares the first campsite while travelers enjoy lunch surrounded by spectacular Andean scenery. In the afternoon, there is time to rest, acclimatize, and explore the peaceful surroundings before dinner and an overnight stay at camp.

DAY 2: Tinki-UPIS (4200 m.)

After an early breakfast, the Ausangate Mountain Trek continues through stunning high-altitude landscapes surrounded by snow-capped peaks and open valleys. The trail gradually ascends toward a mountain pass at approximately 4,500 meters above sea level, offering incredible panoramic views of the majestic Ausangate glacier.

Along the hike, travelers will discover colorful lagoons, crystal-clear streams, and herds of llamas and alpacas grazing freely across the Andean plains. The peaceful atmosphere and untouched scenery make this one of the most memorable sections of the trek.

After several hours of hiking, we arrive at the Upis campsite, located near the impressive Ausangate glacier. Here, hikers can relax, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and admire the spectacular sunset over the Andes before dinner and overnight camping.

DAY3: upis-Pacchanta

Following breakfast, the Ausangate Mountain Trek continues toward the Andean community of Pacchanta. The trail follows a moderate route with beautiful mountain scenery throughout the day. During the hike, travelers enjoy incredible views of glaciers, turquoise lagoons, and dramatic landscapes that surround the Ausangate region.

This section of the trek offers excellent opportunities to photograph the snow-covered mountains and observe local Andean life in remote villages. The peaceful environment and natural beauty create an unforgettable trekking experience.

After approximately five hours of hiking, we reach Pacchanta, a small traditional village famous for its natural hot springs. The campsite is located near the glacier, providing amazing panoramic views. In the afternoon, travelers have the option to relax in the thermal baths while enjoying the spectacular scenery of the Peruvian Andes.

DAY 4: Pacchanta-Tinki (3950 m) CUSCO

On the final day of the Ausangate Mountain Trek, we enjoy a relaxing walk back to the village of Tinki while taking in the last views of the majestic Andean landscapes. The descent takes approximately three hours through beautiful valleys surrounded by mountains and grazing alpacas.

Upon arrival in Tinki, we enjoy lunch before boarding our transportation back to Cusco. During the return journey, travelers can reflect on the incredible adventure, breathtaking scenery, and authentic cultural experiences discovered along the Ausangate region.

The tour ends in Cusco, usually a short distance from the main square, from where travelers can return to their hotel independently.

Important: All the buses the coming back from the Inca Trail leave the passengers one block from the main square, you are going to return to the hotel by yourself.
