Itinerary

The Inca Jungle Trek is a 4-day adventure trip from Cusco to Machu Picchu with multiple activities, including biking, river rafting, and trekking. Experience Mountain Biking to Maras Moray, River Rafting in the Urubamba, hiking the lost Inca Trails in the thick Andean Jungle, and finally, visiting Machu Picchu.

DAY 1: CUSCO – ABRA MÁLAGA – HUAMANMARKA – SANTA MARÍA – HUACAYUPANA

We’ll begin our Inca Jungle adventure at 6:00 a.m. with a pickup from your hotel in Cusco. As we depart the city, we’ll drive through the picturesque towns of Chinchero, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo, all located within the beautiful Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Upon reaching the Málaga Pass (4,316 m / 14,160 ft), the real adventure begins. Here, you’ll be treated to stunning panoramic views of the snow-capped Huacay Willca. We’ll provide you with cycling gear and a comprehensive safety briefing before setting off on a thrilling downhill bike ride.

Our descent takes us through diverse ecological zones, including the Puna (High Andean plateau) and the lush Cloud Forest, both rich in unique flora and fauna. The bike ride lasts approximately 3 hours, covering 50–80 km (31–50 miles), and is 90% downhill with 10% flat terrain—perfect for riders of all levels. No prior mountain biking experience is required, only basic cycling ability.

We’ll end the biking portion at the archaeological site of Huaman Marq’a (1,600 m / 5,248 ft), where a vehicle will be waiting to take us on a 25-minute drive to the town of Santa María (1,200 m / 3,937 ft). From there, a 25-minute walk leads us to the tranquil village of Pispitayoc (1,370 m / 4,493 ft).

We’ll spend the night at our eco-friendly lodge, nestled in the heart of the forest and surrounded by mountains—an ideal place to relax and enjoy nature.

DAY 2: PISPITAYOC – QELLOMAYO – COCALMAYO – SANTA TERESA

After a delicious breakfast, your guide will tell you about the area and teach you how to roast and make your own coffee. We will then begin hiking along part of the Inca Trail network known as Qhapaq Ñan. Along the way, we will see numerous birds, including parrots, hummingbirds, and eagles, as well as plantations of coca (the sacred leaf of the Incas), coffee, yucca, and fruit trees (orange, mango, and banana).

We will hike to the Huancarcasa viewpoint (1,750 m – 5,750 ft) and relax there with panoramic views of the entire valley. After this break, the entire trail descends to the small town of Qellomayo (1,200 m – 3,936 ft). We will have lunch here and then begin the last part of the hike, which will take approximately two more hours. We end at the Cocalmayo hot springs (1,450 m – 4,756 ft) (optional) and then continue to the town of Santa Teresa (1,515 m – 4,969 ft). Overnight in this village.

💡 Please note: Before reaching the Cocalmayo hot springs, you will cross a small local cable car (oroya) owned by the community, and you must pay 10.00 soles per person ($4 USD).

DAY 3: SANTA TERESA – HIDROELEÉCTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll follow in the footsteps of our Inca ancestors. We’ll hike the first 3 hours from Santa Teresa (1,515m – 4,969ft). Along the way, we’ll see coffee and coca plantations. We’ll end at the Hydroelectric Power Plant (1,900m / 6,270ft), where we’ll have lunch and a break. Then, we’ll continue for 3 hours along the train tracks to reach Aguas Calientes (1,950m – 6,396ft) (Machu Picchu town). We’ll have the afternoon free. In the evening, we’ll meet for dinner and plan the climb to Machu Picchu the next day.

💡 Please note: This morning, you can try the zip-line activity, which is very fun and has more than 5 cables. It costs $30.00 per person (optional).

-At dinner, the guide will give each person their Machu Picchu admission and return train tickets, and will coordinate the trek to Machu Picchu for the following day and confirm the departure time.

DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO

At 5:00 am, we will begin our last day, hiking to Machu Picchu (2,400 m – 3,872 ft) for approximately 1.5 hours. At the entrance of this Inca citadel, you will check in and show your ticket to begin your 1.5-hour guided tour. Our guide will show you the most important parts of Machu Picchu. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore independently. At the end, you will return to Aguas Calientes (1,515 m – 4,969 ft) (Machu Picchu town). You will gather your belongings and head to the train station to take the train to Ollantaytambo, where our transportation will be waiting to take you back to Cusco.

If you don’t want to walk the 1 hour and 30 minutes to Machu Picchu and prefer to go up or down from Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) to Machu Picchu, you can pay $12 each way by bus.

In Ollantaytambo, our transportation will be waiting for you with a sign with your name on it and will take you back to Cusco.
