Recommendations
We want you to live this adventure with joy, comfort, and peace of mind. Here are some heartfelt recommendations based on years of guiding in the Andes:
Acclimatization is everything The Sacred Valley is beautiful, but we are at high altitude (between 2,800 m and over 4,100 m). Please arrive in Cusco or the Sacred Valley at least 2–3 days before the trek starts. Walk slowly, rest well, drink plenty of water, and enjoy coca tea — it really helps. Your body will thank you during the climbs to Yanacocha and Quellococha lagoons.
Pack smart and light You’ll be trekking through changing weather: strong sun, cold wind, and possible light rain. We recommend:
- Comfortable, already broken-in trekking boots
- Layers of clothing: base layer, fleece, and a waterproof jacket
- Trekking poles (highly recommended for the descents)
- Sunscreen (SPF 50+), sunglasses, and a hat
- A good daypack (20–30 L) with a rain cover
- Headlamp, reusable water bottle, and energy snacks
Take it easy and enjoy the pace This is not a race. Walk at your own rhythm — “slow but steady” is the Andean way. The views are breathtaking, so take time to breathe, smile, and connect with the mountains. Our guides will always adjust the pace to the group.
Stay hydrated and eat well Drink water constantly (even if you don’t feel thirsty). Our team will provide delicious Andean meals: quinoa soup, fresh trout, vegetables, and energizing snacks on the trail. The food is prepared with love and will keep your energy high.
Respect and connect with the local culture You will walk through living Quechua communities and sacred places. A warm “¡Hola!” or “Allillanchu?” (How are you?) goes a long way. Leave only footprints and take only memories — we care deeply about protecting these lands.
Prepare for the magical sunrise at Machu Picchu On Day 3, we wake up very early to catch the first light over the citadel. Bring warm layers for the morning chill and your camera ready — this moment often becomes one of the most emotional highlights of the entire trip.
Trust your guide Our team knows every step of this trail, the history, the weather, and the mountains. If you feel tired, have a headache, or simply need a slower pace, please speak up. We are here to make sure you feel safe and happy.
This trek is designed to be moderate but deeply rewarding. With the right preparation and the right mindset, it becomes a journey you will remember for the rest of your life.
If you have any questions or need help with your packing list, just reach out — we’re happy to help you prepare for this unforgettable adventure in the heart of the Inca world.
